Street Art in the Middle East: Dubai walls

Juxtapoz was excited to be in Dubai last week to watch the first group of international artists kick off Dubai Walls, one of the first major street art initiatives in the Middle East.

Today we get a chance to show you the artists and walls that were completed and are being worked on at the moment in Dubai. The project was made possible by Meraas, a Dubai-based holding company, who are supporting the initiative to bring the Street Art movement to the Middle East.

The artists that worked in Dubai over the past weeks were ROA, Ron English, The London Police, D*Face, EINE, Eelus, Beau Stanton, AIKO, Nick Walker, Rone, Icy & Sot, Blek Le Rat, Magda Sayeg, Etam Cru and Slinkachu.

From Dubai Walls: “The inaugural project from Dubai Walls is now open to the public at City Walk Dubai, where work by a stellar cast of 15 of the world’s top street artists, representing five continents can be seen across the urban landscape. From large scale murals to tiny hidden works, this treasure trail of street art aims to begin a conversation about this exciting art form with residents and visitors to the region.”

In the coming weeks, and in an upcoming issue of Juxtapoz, we will investigate the story behind the creation of Dubai Walls, the ambitions of the project, and showcase each artist’s work.
