Banksy’s Rude Copper is one of his earliest works on paper to surface onto the art scene back in 2002. This Banksy print was initially released in an unsigned edition of 250 prints as well as a rare edition of 30 prints with hand-finished spray paint on them. This image reflects a more bold, unpolished, and confrontational sarcastic treatment than would become prevalent in his later works – the later period pieces delivering satire in a more nuanced manner. The Copper is engaging in the viewer in their participatory space with a friendly gesture of “Fuck You”. How are viewers to take this? Is the Copper saying fuck you as an anti-authoritarian gesture or is he giving the finger to citizens in general, reminding viewers that police officers are unfriendly and not to be trusted?

Too abrasive for most to hang up on their wall, the print is somewhat esoteric and has become a trophy prize for many hardcore Banksy collectors, specifically the hand sprayed examples. If you would like to sell your Banksy art, Banksy’s Rude Copper is a sought after print by collectors everywhere and we can help you with placing this into another collection.
