Love Is In The Air first appeared as a graffiti art wall stencil in Jerusalem shortly after the West Bank Wall was built, and was first reproduced as a print run on a red background in an edition of 500 the same year. Since then, Banksy has produced several versions of the stencil for unique works on canvas and print runs on various colorways. The Love Is In The Air (2003) print on the red background is the best-known and most sought-after graffiti art example of the work. Banksy’s Love Is In The Air is a truly iconic artwork and has been reproduced as posters, phone covers, T-shirts, and tattoos all over the world.

““The greatest crimes in the world are not committed by people breaking the rules but by people following the rules.”
Banksy, Wall and Piece

Seen here is a large format stencil installation of the iconic Banksy art, Love Is In the Air.

The imagery in Banksy’s Love Is In The Air is reminiscent of protesters in the college riots that rocked the United States and the United Kingdom during the Vietnam War. The figure of the young man leans backward with one arm out, as if winding up to throw something aggressively, and his face is partially hidden by a bandana and ball cap. The intense red of the 2003 print escalates the mood of the image to an almost vicious moment. Instead of being captured in the act of violence, however, Banksy’s subject holds the embodiment of peace and beauty — a bouquet of flowers.

“All graffiti is low-level dissent, but stencils have an extra history. They’ve been used to start revolutions and to stop wars.” – Banksy

This painting by Banksy also features the familiar character seen in Love Is In the Air. This painting was on view at the Los Angeles MOCA urban art exhibition curated by Jeffrey Deitch.

Love Is In The Air is is one of Banksy’s most popular artworks for sale because of its powerful message — to wage peace. It infers that civil activism through love and peace are the only weapons powerful enough to combat corruption and extremism. Banksy’s Flower Thrower ardently hopes for a peaceful resolution to conflicts.

If you would like to sell your Banksy art, Love Is In The Air is a very highly sought-after street art print and the 2003 edition of 500 work on the red background will fetch a high return, as will original paintings on canvas of the Flower Thrower. If you would like to buy Banksy’s Love Is In The Air, the original prints are rare and the investment has a record of consistent and healthy profit increases.
